The way we let homes puts you in the driving seat
The way we let our homes gives you more of a say in where you live and the type of house you live in. If you're interested in renting with us, here's what you'll need to do:
1 | Register with us
You need to complete a Registration Form and send it to us. Pick one up at your local housing office or download it right here. Please follow the guidance notes in the form. We'll then write to you with your Registration Number and Applicant Group.
2 | Look for a home
We use a website called Home Finder to advertise our properties on a weekly basis. Here you can search for a home and note an interest in the ones you like, based your Applicant Group.
If you can't get online, please call us and we'll send you a weekly property listing. Remember there's free internet access across the city.
3 | Note an interest
When you find a property you like, you'll need to note an interest in it. The easiest way to do this is on Home Finder. You should note an interest before the weekly deadline of 8pm on a Monday.
4 | Your offer
If your application is successful we'll contact you as soon as possible. We'll also let you know if you have not been successful. You should continue to note an interest in properties.
If you become a GHA tenant you will be required to pay four weeks rent in advance. If you receive housing benefit this will be taken into account.
If your home is considered to have more bedrooms than you need, and you are on housing benefit, you will be required to pay a proportion of the rent yourself.
Your home will be at risk if you do not keep up with your rent payments.
We want to give local people more of a say in how we let homes in their community. That’s why we’ve introduced Community Housing Plans for each local area – with residents being given a key role in planning how homes should be allocated.
