Martin Armstrong, Chief Executive

Over the past three years, Martin has become one of the UK’s most respected public-sector leaders, having led GHA to unparalleled achievement.

Under his leadership, GHA has not only won a string of national awards and accreditations, but is set to complete - on time and within budget – Europe’s largest social housing modernisation programme. The £1.2 billion refurbishment of over 70,000 flats and houses has not only transformed Glasgow’s affordable housing, but leveraged in almost a further £1 billion to Glasgow’s and Scotland’s economy.

His 23-year career in housing, which has taken him from Surrey to Moray, culminated in him being appointed in September, 2012, as Group Chief Executive of GHA’s new parent company, Wheatley Housing Group. As well as Scotland’s largest social landlord, Wheatley, which has over 1700 employees, also comprises:

  • Cube Housing Association, which rents affordable homes across the West of Scotland
  • Lowther Homes, offering hundreds of mid and full-market apartments to rent from Glasgow’s West End to Leith and
  • Scotland’s leading property-management company, YourPlace, with over 25,000 factored homeowners.
